• In 1970, addax numbered around 600 animals in the wild. Today fewer than 100 roam the Sahara, making them rarer than giant pandas — yet almost no one has heard of them. They've become ghosts of the desert, hunted to the edge of extinction by humans who wanted their meat and hides.
• An addax can survive for years without drinking a single drop of water. Instead, it extracts moisture from desert plants and concentrates its urine to levels that would poison most mammals. Its body temperature swings up to 5°C between day and night, a strategy that cuts water loss by nearly half — a survival hack that took evolution millions of years to perfect.
• Those spiral horns can twist for a full meter in length, forming corkscrew patterns unique to each animal like a fingerprint.
